The company encountered several pain points with the existing BI setup:

  • The SQL table joins were inaccurate and required expert intervention to meet business requirements.
  • The data model had structural limitations, leading to inefficiencies and inconsistencies in reporting.
  • Power BI dashboards contained numerous unused or redundant DAX queries, impacting performance and ease of maintenance.
  • The business required new Power BI visualizations, necessitating optimized and business-specific DAX queries.

CloudIQ Technologies collaborated closely with the client to address the foundational issues and build a more reliable and scalable BI infrastructure.

1. SQL Optimization and Environment Isolation

CloudIQ analyzed and fixed SQL join issues based on VIP data requirements. A new non-production Azure Synapse environment was provisioned to allow the safe development and testing of query changes without affecting existing production reports.

2. Data Model Refinement

Based on client-provided specifications, CloudIQ made structural improvements to the data model. These changes were applied across Synapse SQL tables and reflected in Power BI’s Power Query layer to ensure consistency.

3. Power BI Optimization and Cleanup

Using tools like Measure Killer, CloudIQ identified and documented all unused DAX measures. This audit helped clean up the BI environment and created transparency for ongoing report development.

4. New Visualizations Using DAX

CloudIQ developed advanced DAX measures to support two key business use cases:

  • Recommended Order Generation: Weekly distribution order quantities were projected based on future stock requirements for a defined period (e.g., 30 days).
  • Forecast by Analogy: For new beverage flavors with limited historical sales data, projections were made using trends from similar existing products.

5. Data Integration from NetSuite

Data from a new vendor, NetSuite, was processed and integrated into the existing Power BI data flow, expanding the scope of reporting and analysis.
